Kings Player Grades, Crowned Royal Style: Davis Drewiske

Davis Drewiske – Georgia Moon Corn Whiskey

I’ve never heard of it either. Yes, it does come in a mason jar.
Davis Drewiske spent most of the 2010-2011 NHL season battling for a roster spot. Much like Ryan Getzlaf with Rogaine, he eventually lost that battle.
Early in the season, it looked as though he had secured the 6th defensive position on the Kings, after edging out newbie Jake Muzzin. But a revitalized Alec Martinez brought too much to the table for Drewiske to overcome, and he was relegated to the 7th spot.
Drewiske stayed on the Kings’ roster all season and did play in 38 games, posting five assists. He ultimately was relegated to the press box after Murray expressed some concern over his physical presence at times, and it seems that if he can’t be overwhelming in that area then he won’t see much ice time, as his puck skills are mostly only average.
He is an above average skater, but unless he can make guys think twice about skating through the paint or channel his inner Drew Doughty on the breakout or offensive zone, then he is simply going to be passed up by more talented players.
That’s too bad too, because ‘Whiskey’ is definitely one of the cooler nicknames in the league.
